Overview
The Houthis remain one of Iran’s key regional allies despite sustained strikes against other Axis groups by Israel and the US. They continue to smuggle weapons through established networks in Oman and Djibouti, where an intelligence station in Muscat coordinates arms transfers.
Recent interceptions by National Resistance forces aligned with Tariq Saleh uncovered shipments of advanced military equipment, jet engines for missiles and suicide drones, as well as narcotics and explosives, all linked to Iranian supply chains. Djibouti’s ports are used for disguised arms transfers, while Oman facilitates covert land and maritime routes into Yemen.
Despite increased security in the Red Sea, the Houthis maintain their supply lines and have threatened renewed action if the Gaza conflict escalates. Seized equipment suggests a strategic shift towards maritime capabilities and drone warfare, posing an ongoing threat to regional stability. Houthi influence also extends to the Horn of Africa, with suspected logistical ties to Al-Shabaab, though direct links remain under investigation.
