Al Shabaab ‘s Activity in Somalia
From 30 December 2024 to 02 January 2025, the security situation in Somalia deteriorated as Al-Shabaab conducted a series of coordinated assaults across Middle and Southern Somalia, targeting military installations and personnel. ISIS executed its second significant operation in December, marking a shift in their modus operandi within Somalia, particularly in the Puntland region. This attack employed tactics less frequently seen in Somalia, involving foreign fighters and a sophisticated use of suicide bombers and VBIEDs, indicating an evolving threat landscape.
