Overview
Puntland’s anti-ISIS operations have escalated, with airstrikes and ground offensives significantly weakening the group’s presence. Between 10 and 16 February, over 104 ISIS militants were killed, including 42 in UAE airstrikes and two in US operations, with many others arrested. Despite these gains, ISIS remains active in Cal Miskaad, where it continues to launch ambushes and rocket attacks. Puntland forces have also retaken Dharin and Turmasaale, though resistance persists. ISIS has adapted its tactics, using small-unit engagements, encirclement strategies, and reconnaissance drones instead of direct frontal assaults. While Puntland’s military efforts, supported by international partners, have dealt heavy losses to the group, ongoing terrain advantages, tactical shifts, and persistent militant activity suggest a prolonged conflict.
